Description and Objectives

The MSA is pleased to announce the 2018 US-Guided Regional Anesthesia (USGRA) workshop to be held on May 19th, 2017. New for this year is a revised course curriculum, and the addition of some elements of Point-of-Care-Ultrasound (POCUS) relevant to all Anesthesiologists practicing Regional Anesthesia. The MSA has partnered with USABCD, a group of experts with international reputation in the field of Regional Anesthesia and POCUS. Course participants will be provided access to a comprehensive eLearning suite of teaching modules in USGRA and POCUS upon registration for the course. The eLearning suite is an integral part of the program and must be successfully completed prior to attending the weekend course, as this will allow for more focused hands-on-training compared to a more conventional approach. This methodology has consistently led to superior manual skills upon completion of the course, and very high participant satisfaction.

Because instructional content is delivered in advance via the eLearning modules, onsite lectures will be succinct and summarize key information; allowing more time for the hands-on practice with expert faculty.

For each session, groups rotate to a new faculty member, model, and machine to allow for exposure to different equipment, scanning and teaching styles, as well as sono-anatomy of various models. Groups are limited to 6 participants per station to ensure adequate hands-on training, with 1 faculty per station, and “floating” experts for extra support throughout. Each hands-on session will reinforce previously learned skills, building a solid foundation throughout the course.

In addition to real-time feedback during the hands-on sessions, the program will offer ample time for formal and informal Q&A with fellow attendees and faculty.
